By Tammy Tkachuk Thank you to Lou Steeves and the Grade 1 Teachers and Students at Barrhead Elementary School for including my in their “Aaron the Blue Heron Visits the Library” project. Using iPads, a group of students representing each of the Grade 1 classes, took pictures of Aaron the Blue Heron, Barrhead’s town mascot, as he visited the library. They then used these pictures, and the Book Creator App, to build their own books about Aaron. When the books were finished, each of the children involved in the project received a printed copy of his or her books, and a copy was also placed in each classroom library. The books were also made available at ePubs so that students could share them with their families in iBooks or Kobo. Finally, each book was exported as a video file, allowing the students to share a video of their book with their classmates. It was a wonderful project. I can’t wait to see where Aaron the Blue Heron goes next!
